Established as Taiwan Chili Horse Hall (台灣奇麗馬館) in 1923, it was renamed Third World Hall (第三世界館) in 1926. After the war it was nationalized by the KMT and the name was changed. With a total of 664 seats it was a little smaller than other theaters in the area, but it specialized in Taiwanese films for a time, and was generally very popular into the 1960s. Eventually the theater business shut down and it was converted into a dance hall of the same name (大光明舞廳) before it was finally demolished.
