A sandstone pillar erected in 1984 on the saddle of Manabang Mountain (馬那邦山), where Tayal fighters and Han insurgents held out against Japanese forces after the Yiwei War of 1895, and where the Japanese military returned in 1902 to crush Tayal resistance to camphor extraction. It is one of four monuments scattered across the range along the border of Dahu and Tai’an; the others are a 1902 cliff inscription below Silingshan (司令山), a 1931 pillar at the summit that was smashed within months of its dedication, and a 1938 pillar on Dakeshan (大克山), now broken into three pieces. The three older monuments commemorate Japanese soldiers and police killed in these campaigns.
