Originally established as a residential community for teachers and staff at the nearby university in the Japanese colonial era. In the post-war period many of the buildings were appropriated for use by military personnel. National Taiwan University, the landowner, targeted the community for urban renewal in the 2000s, sparking protests and legal battles that dragged on for years. Residents were eventually evicted and the community was razed to the ground in the early 2010s.
