One of two former railway tunnels on the Zhongliao Line (中寮線), built in 1938 to transport sugarcane and passengers from the hilly interior of Zhongliao to a sugar refinery in Nantou City. The tunnel was abandoned after service on the line ended in the early 1960s. Both tunnel entrances still exist and appear to be accessible.
