Yuanlin Animal Spirit Monument (員林獸魂碑) - Spectral Codex

A concrete monument that formerly stood near the old slaughterhouse in Yuanlin. Its date of construction is unknown but the form is consistent with a Japanese colonial era origin. After the slaughterhouse closed in the early 2000s the site was taken over by the police as a vehicle impound lot, and the stele continued to receive annual pudu offerings from former slaughterhouse workers until it was removed in 2014 to make way for road expansion. Its current whereabouts are unknown and it was presumably destroyed. The precise location can still be seen on Google Street View in history mode.
