Built sometime between the 1820s to the 1850s by the Ding family of the Quanzhou Guild firm Ding Xieyuan (丁協源), this three-bay courtyard residence on the main commercial thoroughfare running through Lukang was the home of one of the town’s wealthiest Qing dynasty era merchant houses. The Dings descended from the Hui Muslim community of Jinjiang, Quanzhou, and by the late 19th century counted jinshi degree holder Ding Shouquan (丁壽泉) among their members. The complex was designated a city monument in 2000 and has since been opened as a small museum documenting the family’s history.
