One of six major saltworks established in Taiwan after the war, also known as Kaohsiung Saltworks (高雄鹽場). The salt pans were originally developed from 1908 by local investors before being taken over by Kaohsiung tycoon Chen Zhonghe, who established the Wushulin Salt Manufacturing Company in 1910. Production ceased in 1983 after the construction of nearby Xingda Power Plant disrupted drainage. The former office of the Wushulin Salt Manufacturing Corporation (原烏樹林製鹽株式會社辦公室) has been neatly restored and is designated a municipal monument.
