Established in 1949 as the Zhitan branch (直潭分校) of Yunhai Elementary School (雲海國小), this hillside campus now overlooking Feitsui Reservoir (翡翠水庫) became the independent Yong’an Elementary School in 1970. It enrolled two to three hundred children at its peak but the completion of the reservoir in the 1980s drained this corner of Shiding of working-age residents, and the school downsized to a branch in 1997 before emptying out entirely in 1999. After a long period of neglect, Yong’an Community Development Association leased the buildings from Yunhai Elementary School in December 2019 for use as a community development and environmental education center.
