A former Shinto shrine on Taiping Island (太平島) in the South China Sea, also known as Nagashima (長島) and administered as part of the Shinnan Islands (新南群島) in the Japanese colonial era. The Imperial Japanese Navy occupied the island in April 1939, placing it under the jurisdiction of Kaohsiung. The shrine’s origins and details remain largely unknown; possible remnants include stone lantern fragments inscribed with dates from 1942 and 1943 and the name of a company, Shinkai Kōgyō (深海工業), but access to the island is highly restricted and verification has not been possible.
