A large mountainside settlement established by the Japanese in the 1930s as Morisaka (摩里沙卡). It was taken over by the ROC government after the war and operated until the logging ban went into effect in the late 1980s. Today many residences are still occupied, while others are abandoned or demolished, but there are many original buildings on site, and some effort has been undertaken to transform it into an open-air museum.
In May 2026 a fire swept through a residential block in the park, destroying five buildings.
