The first modern theater in Zhushan (竹山劇場), established in the late Japanese colonial era, probably around 1940. Traditional performance and glove puppetry would have been the norm in the early years, but it was eventually converted for screening film. Closed in 1972 and demolished some time after that. May have also been known as Shinbutai (新戲臺), literally “new stage”, and it also may have been built on the street corner opposite the original Takeyama-za (竹山座).
