Renowned as the highest hotel available for booking in Taiwan at 3,150 meters elevation, located within walking distance of the Hehuanshan (合歡山) trailhead. The original three-storey building was completed in 1966 as both a ski training camp headquarters and the highest of Chiang Kai-shek’s many retreats, providing accommodation during inspections of the Cross-Island Highway. Storm damage forced its closure in 1996 and the building was demolished in 1999. It was completely reconstructed in a European alpine style by 2004, but sat vacant and deteriorating for years before finally reopening under Forestry Bureau management in 2009.
