Beitou Acala Grotto (北投不動明王石窟) - Spectral Codex
北投不動明王石窟
Beitou Acala Grotto (北投不動明王石窟)

A Buddhist grotto carved into a cliff face beside a waterfall, housing a stone relief of Acala (不動明王), a wrathful guardian deity of esoteric Japanese Buddhism. It was commissioned during the Taisho era by Sano Shōtarō (佐野庄太郎), operator of the nearby Hoshinoyu (星乃湯) hot spring inn. A wooden worship pavilion, a hand-washing basin (手水舍), and a pair of rugged stone lanterns from 1940 survive in front of the grotto.
