I’ve used a variety of camera setups over the years, roughly in reverse chronological order:
- Panasonic Lumix S5 II (2023—present); much bulkier than I expected it to be, this is a camera that I haven’t grown to love as much as my old Nikon D3100, but it certainly is a technical marvel, allowing me to shoot some pretty detailed photos even in poor lighting conditions
- Nikon D3400 (2021–2023); initially meant as an upgrade to my previous Nikon DSLR, which had broken down but this camera proved to have a variety of problems of its own, particularly a propensity for an alien greenish tint
- Nikon D3100 (2011–2021); the workhorse of my journey into photography, mostly using the 18–55mm kit lens as well as the 18–200mm zoom lens I had picked up previously; by late 2020 the shutter started to malfunction
- Canon EOS 600D (2016–2017); a loaner for the better part of a year with a 11–16mm lens
- Nikon D5200 (2014–2015); a loaner equipped with an 18–55mm kit lens and an 18–105mm zoom
- Nikon D40 (2007–2011); my first DSLR, mostly equipped with the 18–55mm kit lens, but I also experimented with 18–135mm and 18–200mm zoom lenses
- Canon PowerShot A75 (2004–2007)
- Canon PowerShot A70 (2003–2004)
I’ve also buzzed through a number of camera-equipped smartphones over the years, which recently started to supplement my vaguely more serious photography:
- Samsung Galaxy S23 (2023—present)
- Samsung Galaxy S10e (2020–2023)
- Samsung Galaxy S6 (2016–2020)
- Samsung Galaxy Note I717 (2012–2016); not really a capable phone camera
- Apple iPhone 3GS (2010–2011)
All my photos are processed with Adobe Lightroom. In recent years my processing style is very light, really just bringing out details and trying to stay close to the natural look. In some cases I’ll take artistic license, particularly if the underlying image quality is poor. Older photos tend to be much more processed, sometimes obnoxiously so. I’ve learned since then and most of the worst offenders will eventually be replaced by newer, less ostentatious versions.
