Central and Western District (中西區) occupies the northwestern portion of Hong Kong Island, with a population of around 236,000. Most of the district lies within the historic boundaries of Victoria City, the first planned urban settlement in colonial Hong Kong, named after Queen Victoria in 1843. The British landed at Possession Point in Sheung Wan in 1841, and by the 1890s the area housed around 200,000 residents.
