The iconic entrance to Hỏa Lò Prison, originally built by the French in the late 19th centry, hence the name Maison Centrale. To the Vietnamese people it is a symbol of colonial oppression but to English-speaking westerners it is more famously known as the Hanoi Hilton, where many American POWs were held during the Vietnam War.
